Shore Introduces Redundant Gigabit Fiber Hardware

Long Branch, NJ - February 14, 2003 - Shore Microsystems today announced the release of the SM-2601F Intelligent Gigabit Ethernet Fiber Link Protector. The new product will allow networks to create redundant connections for their "mission critical" 1000BaseSX or 1000BaseLX connections by allowing simultaneous connections to both a primary and backup network port from servers, routers, and other key network equipment. The SM-2601F operates by monitoring the primary link and, in the event of failure, automatically switching to the backup link. Switchover speeds can be set as fast as 20 milliseconds for data transmission.

The Gigabit Fiber Link Protector is SNMP manageable and is available in both short and long wavelength versions. The device is programmable with respect to switchover speed to allow for slow boot switching hubs. The SM-2601F is fully IEEE 802.3z compliant and will switchover when a remote fault occurs. A remote fault occurs when the transmit link on the remote device fails. Remote fault is currently undetectable by other stand-alone redundant technologies.
