The SM-2701/2702 Copper or Fiber Link Protector provides a fully managed automatic link backup capability for up to two (2) "mission-critical" 1000BaseF/1000BaseT/100BaseTX/10BaseT Ethernet links.  The system protects vital connections to servers, routers, firewalls, and other key Ethernet devices that require fail-safe link operation.  The SM-2701/2702 operates by monitoring a primary link and, in the event of a failure, automatically switching to the backup link.  Switching can also be controlled externally via network, console, or front panel commands.  The unit combines electronic and relay technologies to provide for fast switchover while providing continuous traffic on loss of power using Shore Microsystems' Straight Through Wire® technology.
